Description:

The Bluegrass Angels (BGA) seeks to encourage the development of start-up companies and to support new businesses in the region by providing the region's entrepreneurs with seed capital and management guidance from experienced industry and entrepreneurial veterans. BGA is a formal group of 40+ former and current executives. An important, although not exclusive, focus of the BGA, is to develop start-up companies through the commercialization of the on-going research of the University of Kentucky. Individual company investments will normally be in the range of $100,000 to $1,500,000. BGA members only invest in Kentucky-based companies with annual revenue potential of at least $10 million. In 2004, Bluegrass Angel Fund was created to co-invest in deals that are subscribed by members of the Bluegrass Angels. The fund is a $2 million fund comprised exclusively of investments from BGA members who have bought shares, University of Kentucky, and Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Fund focuses on seed/early stage deals but is generally category agnostic. The goal of the fund is to maintain a diverse balance among biotechnology, software, pharmaceutical, defense and industrial.
