Founded in 1988, Highland is a venture firm investing in seed, early and growth stage companies in the communications, consumer, digital media, healthcare and information technology markets. The firm has $3 billion of committed capital and recently closed its eighth fund, capping it at $400 million. In addition, the firm has launched the Highland Consumer Fund, a $300 million fund investing in the underserved consumer sector (consumer products, services and retail). These new funds bring Highland's committed capital to over $3 billion. Highland is almost always the first institutional investor in the companies it backs, initially investing $1 million - $10 million, with exceptions. Highland has invested in over 280 seed, early and growth stage companies, 126 of which have gone public or been acquired (200 exits, 50+ IPOs). Some of Highland's previous investments include Ask Jeeves, Avid Technology, CheckFree, and Lycos. The firm has its main offices in Greater Boston, Silicon Valley, and London.
