In 2006, Scale Venture Partners, formerly BA Venture Partners, spun out from its former sole limited partner, and re-launched with new, diverse institutional LPs. The size of Scale's investments ranges from $5 million to $25 million, with an average of about $8 million over the life of an investment. The firm focuses on three key investment areas: SaaS, cloud, mobile and Internet. In hardware, Scale concentrates on semiconductor and MEMS companies, particularly in consumer electronics, as well as datacenter systems companies helping operations achieve scale. Scale's emphasis in software is on companies developing Internet marketing, digital media, wireless data services, and software as-service-applications. Scale is now investing its third fund, a $255 million fund.
