Canvas is an early-stage venture capital firm based in Silicon Valley. The Canvas Venture Fund was the $175 million inaugural fund managed by the Morgenthaler Technology Investment Company. The fund is focused exclusively on making early-stage (Series A and Series B) investments in software & services companies. Canvas invests $5-20M per company over the life of the company. Initial check size ranges from a few hundred thousand to $10M. The Canvas Venture Fund was formed by the managing directors who led or serve on the boards of Evernote, Siri, NexTag, Practice Fusion, Nuance Communications, Illustra Technologies and more. Canvas Ventures 2 was closed in June 2016. The firm listed $250M as its target fundraising amount on their PPM (private placement memorandum). The fund was oversubscribed, closing at its hard cap of $300M. The firm leads rounds in a discreet 8 to 10 investments a year.
