    Description:

Charter Capital Partners, founded in 1989, is an investment banking firm serving the lower middle market in Michigan. Charter Private Capital Management is a Registered Investment Adviser, and manages venture capital and other privately invested funds. In addition, Charter invests directly into companies through the use of Special Purpose Entities (SPEs). Since 2007, Charter has invested more than $78 million via the establishment of 14 different SPEs. The firm manages Michigan Accelerator Fund I (MAF-1), an investment partnership. The purpose of the fund is to drive forward the new economy of Michigan, providing a path to funding and partnerships for the commercialization of new regionally developed opportunities. The Fund will invest in early stage companies that fall into one of the six target sectors: life sciences technology; advanced manufacturing; homeland security; alternative energy technology; information technology; and agriculture. Companies must be based in Michigan. The Fund will focus on seed and early stage venture capital investments in life science technology companies. The fund size is $15.1 million, with $6 million awarded to the Fund via the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, and $9 million targeted to come from local investors including universities, foundations, and private investors. The Fund is sponsored and supported by leading West Michigan investors, research organizations and socio-economic stakeholders including Van Andel Research Institute, Hope River Ventures, West Michigan Science & Technology Initiative, Grand Angels, Grand Valley State University, Michigan State University, The Right Place Program, and Lakeshore Advantage. The Charter Growth Capital Fund is a targeted $100 million fund that invests junior capital in lower middle market companies in the Great Lakes region to support growth or succession.
