Colt Ventures is a diversified family office that invests in a variety of sectors and was founded in 2003. The firm is headquartered in Dallas, TX with a presence in New York City. Colt Ventures was established as a family office to invest the personal capital of Darren Blanton. The firm reviews over 250 deals per year and invests in the following areas: private and public companies in biotechnology, oil and gas, technology, financial services, real estate, consumer/retail, and special situations; hedge funds; private equity/venture capital funds; and equine assets. The firm has the following investment principles: Invests up to $15M per deal; Target inefficient markets; Back proven management teams with a track record of success; and Significant value inflection points in the near term; and Near term liquidity. According to the Dallas Morning News, since Blanton formed Colt Ventures, he has invested more than $100 million in life science, oil and gas, mining and minerals, professional services and real estate. Nine companies that he financed in their early stages went on to have market valuations of more than $1 billion. His most prized transaction was his purchase of the legendary cutting horse sire High Brow Cat, whose 1,300-plus 'Cat' offspring have netted more than $70 million in prize money in the competitive Western performance horse world.
