The mission of UNHInnovation is to assist New Hampshire industry in becoming more competitive, and thereby retain and increase industrial employment. UNHInnovation is leading a U.S. Small Business Administration grant funding initiative called FOSTER (FOcused SBIR/STTR Teaching, Entrepreneurship and Results) to increase proposals for SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) and STTR (Small Business Technology Transfer) grants in the state of New Hampshire. The primary goal of these projects is to attract, grow, and retain companies in the State of New Hampshire. The UNHInnovation Venture Studio is where UNH intellectual property (IP) transitions from innovative ideas to revenue-generating ventures. Through tailored support, the studio advances IP by fostering commercialization within the originating innovator. UNHInnovation matching funds are specifically designed to expand the research activities of an industry partner by providing funds for research collaborations between industry and academia. While projects may be proposed in any discipline, applications are particularly encouraged in the following areas: Bioinformatics, Computational Tools, Environmental Technologies, Geospatial Analysis, Information Technology, Materials Science, Medical Technologies, Nanotechnology, Optics, Precision Engineering, Robotics, and Sensors. Since 1991 UNHInnovation has awarded over $8 million to 129 New Hampshire companies. UNHInnovation has created over 685 jobs and has provided $25MM in additional funding for New Hampshire educational institutions. Its awardees have received more than $32 million in federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants, over $950,000 in National Science Foundation Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (NSF-EPSCoR) funds, and over $900 million in investment/acquisition capital.
